The David A. Straz Jr. Center for the Performing Arts is located at 1010 North W.C. MacInnes Place, Tampa, Florida. The venue was renamed in November 2009 as a tribute to the most significant donation made by David A. Straz Jr. The Straz Center opened to the general public in July 1987. Straz Center is the second biggest performing arts center in the Southeastern United States. The venue provides some of the best facilities such as technical theater workshop, costume shop, sound booth, rehearsal hall, arts/TV studio, retail shops, and on-site restaurants. The venue also contains five big theaters named Carol Morsani Hall, Ferguson Hall, the Jaeb Theater, TECO Energy Foundation Theater, and the Shimberg Playhouse. The Straz Center has a seating capacity of about 2,610 (for Carol Morsani Hall), 1,042 (Ferguson Hall), 268 (for Jaeb Theater), and 130 (for Shimberg Playhouse). The venue underwent a million-dollar renovation in 2018.
The David A. Straz Jr. Center serves as a host to a wide range of events such as meetings, conferences, live acts, concerts, and performances. The Center also has a leading Broadway series being hosted. The venue has been home to several organizations, which include The Florida Orchestra, GMI Music, Tampa Bay Symphony, Lyric Opera Theater, and Crescendo. The yearly events at the center include Broadway Ball, Eggstravaganza, Best of Tampa Bay, and an Open House in the fall.
