Meridian Arts Centre is a popular performing arts venue located in the North York area of Toronto, Ontario. The venue officially opened for the public on October 16, 1993. It is under the ownership of the City of Toronto government which is also responsible for the operational sector of the facility. The center was formerly known as North York Performing Arts Centre (1993–94) and Ford Centre for the Performing Arts (1994–98), with the architecture done by Eberhard Zeidler.
A new sponsorship deal with Meridian Credit Union was announced by TO Live in January 2019. TO Live was formerly known as Civic Theatres Toronto, an agency in the City of Toronto known for managing and operating the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts, the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts, and the Toronto Centre for the Arts. The deal was meant to rebrand the venue in September of the same year. Originally, the Meridian Arts Centre building housed three theatres named the George Weston Recital Hall with 1,036 seats, the Main Stage Theatre with 1,727 seats, and the multi-purpose, 200-seat Studio Theatre. The City of Toronto government gained control of the facility when Livent declared bankruptcy (1998).
The Main Stage at the Meridian Arts Centre was home to Jersey Boys, a Dancap Productions' Canadian production, from August 2008 - August 2010. It was also home to the 1993 production of Show Boat that transferred to Broadway later and the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Sunset Boulevard in 1995.
