Bailey Zimmerman Great Jones County Fair Monticello

Great Jones County Fair is one of the biggest annual social events that take place in Eastern Iowa. It was once the county’s rural families’ social event of the year, but now, the fair is a week of midsummer magic, drawing crowds far and wide. In July 2019, the 167th Great Jones County Fair took place. During its initial years, the farm families used to load their wagons with picnic baskets to bring their best livestock and show them to the neighbors.

The fair is sustained by the public’s active interest and the participation of farm families. This event has guided millions of young farmers in their bright and prosperous future. Agriculture is still the current backbone of the Great Jones County Fair. Apart from this, there is a long list of country stars and rock legends that entertain the fair’s visitors. The grandstands are packed with them every night. Other entertainments at the fair include a demolition derby, harness racing, stock car racing, along with the Midway’s shows and rides.
