Fremont Theater - San Luis Obispo CA
Ali Siddiq
The Fremont Theater is a historical theater in San Luis Obispo, California. The venue is considered among the last Streamline Moderne theaters built and designed by architect S. Charles Lee. The theatre was opened in 1942 on the eve of the U.S. entry into World War II. Throughout the venue's initial years, it served as a moving pictures theater and a live theater.
The Fremont Theater hosted war bond shows in its early years. Later, the venue hosted several attractions such as Adam Ant and Yes. In the late 20th century, many developers wanted to demolish the building, but public outcry became a reason to save the theater. The owner then built its multiplex next door, and the historical structure of the venue was saved.
The Fremont Theater is now stated to be one of the prominent locations for countless big festivals. This includes the San Luis Obispo International Film Festival. The theatre is now used for opening ceremonies, local acts, and much more.
