1776 - The Musical
Ford's Theatre is a small theatre located at 511 10th St, NW, Washington, D.C. Originally; it was built in August 1863. The theatre is famous for being the site of the assassination of United States President, Abraham Lincoln, by well-known stage actor John Wilkes Booth on April 14, 1865. On June 9, 1893, some parts of the building collapsed, causing several deaths and injuries.
It was renovated and reopened on January 30, 1968, as a theatre. The venue has a seating capacity of only 665 people. It is under the ownership of the National Park Service and managed by Ford's Theatre Society. At the 123rd birthday ceremony of Lincoln on February 12, 1932, a Lincoln museum opened on the first floor of the building. It was designed by Charles Lessig the first time.
Ford's Theatre got renovated again in the 2000s and reopened on February 11, 2009, on Lincoln's 200th birthday. Famous actors and singers who performed at the reopening ceremony include; James Earl Jones, Kelsey Grammer, Katie Couric, Joshua Bell, Marine Band, Ben Vereen, Patrick Lundy, Jessye Norman, and, Audra McDonald.
Big time productions like The Lion King, Miss Saigon, Beauty and the Beast, Les Miserables, Chicago, Oliver, Cabaret, Hairspray, The Phantom of the Opera, The Sound of Music, and The Like have also been played and hosted at the theatre.
